Current US DOT: What is a Medical Review Officer?

About the Medical Review Officer

This section defines the role and functions of the Medical Review Officer. Training resources are identified and a context and platform are created for a complete review of all MRO functions and required competencies via the following four subordinate sections:

Receiving Results from the Laboratory

This section gives detailed information regarding the MRO function of importing lab results. The "new" 1998 nomenclature and reporting rules are given in detail.

Interpretation and Verification

This section is a highly technical review of the VERIFICATION process. It is designed for physician/MRO's preparing for certification or wishing to review the process. Definitions are given for Unsuitable, Cancelled, Substituted, and Adulterated Specimens, and the meanings and required action for each category.

Reporting Results to Employers

This section gives detailed information regarding the MRO function of reporting lab results to employers. The "new" 1998 nomenclature and reporting rules are given and explained in detail.

Reporting of "Bottle B" RE-TEST results

This section is devoted entirely to the "new" 1998 rules for reporting "Re-test" results. The new nomenclature is defined and explained for these results from lab to MRO and from MRO to employer.
